If you’ve ever wanted your disc golf bag to feel like a Finnish fairy tale—complete with warriors, kings, and maybe a swan—then welcome to Westside Discs. These are some of our all-time favorite molds, and right now they’re on sale here at Discount Disc Golf, where the prices are as low as the Warship flies straight.
The Mythical Beginnings of Westside Discs
Long ago, in the mystical land of Finland (okay, 2003), a man named Janne Penttilä said, “You know what this world needs? Disc golf discs that feel magical and look like they were forged by Nordic elves.” Okay, maybe he didn’t say that out loud, but he definitely acted on it.
Janne started Westside Discs by importing discs to sell in Finland, but by 2009, he partnered with Swedish manufacturer Latitude 64 to start producing his own line of discs—complete with killer plastic blends and art straight out of the Kalevala (Finland’s answer to the Iliad, but with more trolls and magical millstones).
When we first reached out to Janne in 2012, he sent us every disc he made at the time (seven total), and it was love at first grip. The plastic felt unreal. The names—King, Warship, Northman, Giant—sounded like they should come with swords. And the stamps? Actual art. Not “clip art from 1997” art. Real art.
From Finland to Emporia
At first, Westside was a bit of a Euro-snob—expensive, imported, and hard to find. But then in 2013, Dynamic Discs started producing their own discs (also through Latitude 64), and with that came the holy “Trilogy” trinity: Dynamic, Latitude 64, and Westside—all made in Sweden, distributed in the U.S., and sold by dudes with trucker hats and dreams.
Demand for Westside exploded, especially because their discs actually worked for normal human beings (aka beginner and intermediate players). Plus, their art didn’t look like it was designed in Microsoft Paint.
In 2017, Dynamic and Latitude realized, “Wait, why are we working for Janne?” So they bought him out, split ownership 50/50, and tucked Westside under their wings.
Unfortunately, that’s also when the brand went on a bit of a nap—molds disappeared, focus shifted, and the Finnish fire dimmed just a little.
Welcome to the House (of Discs)
Fast forward to 2023, and House of Discs (the Marvel Cinematic Universe of disc golf) buys Dynamic Discs, officially absorbing Westside into the mega-multinational disc golf empire. Westside is now one of many brands in the House of Discs portfolio, like a Viking who got invited to a corporate board meeting.
But Don’t Worry… the Discs Still Rip
Despite the corporate reshuffling and Scandinavian soap operas, the Westside brand still includes some of the best-flying, best-looking discs you can buy. Whether you’re a one-brand purist (why tho) or just someone who wants a bag full of legends, Westside has you covered.
Westside Distance Drivers
Let’s be honest—the King was probably your first “I bombed it 400+” driver. Mine too. And they’ve got plenty more:
- Destiny – Slightly more stable than the King, but still a glidey missile.
- Queen – Fast and seriously understable. Like “hold my beer” flippy.
- Sword, Catapult, Boatman – Yes, they sound like an RPG squad, and yes, they’re all PDGA approved for battle.

Westside Fairway Drivers
The fairway lineup? Chef’s kiss. Okay, maybe early flight numbers were made up by Finnish wizards, but these discs fly beautifully:
- Hatchet – My MVD (Most Valuable Disc) for hyzer flips and effortless glide.
- Stag – Solid, stable, and reliable like your childhood pet.
- Longbowman – Sidearm ace machine. Trust me, my longest forehand ace ever was with this disc.

Westside Midranges
It’s okay to get emotional about plastic. I do when I think about:
- Tursas – Stays straight like it’s on rails.
- Warship – Silky smooth, reliable like Grandma’s rolls.
- Anvil – A beefcake. Like a midrange that lifts.

Westside Putters
Ah, the Black Swan—my first love. Terrible color choice . Great putter. Nearly lost it forever on a ski resort course, but like any good rom-com, we found each other in the shadows.
Other honorable mentions:
- Crown – My go-to putter for a while.
- Maiden – Great throwing putter.
- Harp – The real MVP of approach discs. Stable, predictable, and always a good choice for those “please don’t roll away” shots.

TL;DR Recap for the Skimmers (You Know Who You Are):
- Founded by Janne in Finland (he’s awesome).
- Made by Latitude 64 in Sweden.
- Distributed by Dynamic since 2013, bought out in 2017.
- Now part of House of Discs as of 2023.
- Still amazing plastic. Still killer art. Still fly like legends.
Want help picking the best Westside discs for your game? Or just want to debate if the Tursas is a better mid than the Buzzz? We’re here for that.
