Discount Disc Golf vs Disc Nation head to head pricing comparison

Once upon a time, deep in the heart of Austin, Texas, there was a mighty disc golf empire known as Disc Nation. Back in the early 2000s—when people still thought MySpace was a good idea—they were crushing the online disc golf game. It all started with a few discs on eBay, a dream, and probably a garage full of Innova. In 2006, they opened a retail store and went full throttle into disc golf world domination: hot stamping, wholesaling, online sales, baskets, branding—you name it.

But then, in 2013, founder Damon Neth hung up his cleats (or whatever disc golfers hang up) and sold out the different aspects of Disc Nation. The retail biz went to Shannon and Sean Mullen. And, well… let’s just say the online fire turned into a flickering candle. Sure, the retail shop stayed open, and Disc Nation remained a “big name” in online disc golf retail—but mostly in the same way Blockbuster is still a “big name” in movie rentals.

Their site has the patriotic slogan “One Nation Under Par,” but if you’re trying to shop for discs online, you might find yourself underwhelmed. We ran a little price check experiment—because that’s what we do when we’re not stocking warehouses with glorious plastic—and compared the same molds and plastics between Disc Nation and us, Discount Disc Golf.

As we’ve done with each of the other retailers in our retailer comparison series, we looked at one disc from each of our top 25 selling brands. Well, tried to. A whole bunch of them weren’t even in stock at Disc Nation, so we did our best with what was actually available in their digital ghost town of a storefront.

Yep, you read that right—on average, we’re over 22% cheaper, and we actually have stuff in stock. What a concept!

Meanwhile, browsing Disc Nation’s website feels like using dial-up internet in a thunderstorm. You click a disc mold, wait for the spinning wheel of doom, and eventually get rewarded with… a single low-res image and zero stock. Hope you didn’t blink, that might’ve been the only disc they had.

Look, we’ll give credit where it’s due—Disc Nation is still doing their thing in Austin. Local scene? Probably great. Solid pro shop for Texans? You bet. But if you’re not within range of their checkout counter—and you’re not looking to overpay for last decade’s inventory—you’re better off parking your cart right here at Discount Disc Golf.

We’ve got the discs. We’ve got the prices. And we don’t make you play a game of “Will it be in stock?” every time you want a Crave or a Judge.

Oh, and one last fun fact and reason to thank Disc Nation, the DiscountDiscGolf.com domain name was actually purchased from former founder Damon Neth, so we can thank them for giving us such an awesome brand today.
